At what organization are you currently based? | SnT, University of Luxembourg |
Why do you define yourself as a Legal Designer? | I research how to create meaningful visual privacy and security indicators: how can we straightforwardly communicate to users the level of data protection and security offered by a service? I am also working on legal design patterns to enhance the transparency of information addressed to consumers. My latest research focuses on the definition of measures to unmask deceptive design choices (aka dark patterns) that lure people into accepting privacy-invasive practices. |
Show off your work! Present yourself through one of your projects | DaPIS, the Data Protection Icon Set: http://gdprbydesign.cirsfid.unibo.it/dapis-2/ |
Tell us a little about the work you just shared, so we understand how to present it to the community. | DaPIS is the icon set I have contributed to create during my PhD project at CIRSFID, University of Bologna, through participatory design. It represents concepts of personal data processing under the GDPR (e.g. How are my data processed? For which purpose? What are my rights?) and is meant to saliently display key information of privacy policies, consent requests and privacy dashboards. Text alone does not attract users’ attention, while visual cues can be faster apprehended and recognized. Experimentation of the efficacy of the icon set in different contexts is still under way – interested? Contact me! |
